The Earthquake

At 4:35 on September the 11th 2010 there was a earthquake in Christchurch and Canterbury. According to my dad I slept through half of it. It was really freaky and I could hear things around me falling. When I realized it was a earthquake I ran under my doorframe. When we were sure the earthquake was over we went down to the garage and listened to the radio in the car. We couldn't listen to the radio or sterio in our house beacause they needed electricity. Then my mum and Dad made coffee on our campstove/gascooker. Later on in the day we scootered around to look a the damage. There was no damage in our house. It was amazing beacause the was a wineglass sitting on the edge of a table and it didn't fall. There was a guy on the otherside of the road and his chimly fell on him.

The earthquake

On saturday the 4th of september there was an earthquake. It was 7.1 magnatude on the Richter scale. When it happened I jumped out of bed and under my doorway. The earthquake was the biggest one since 1930. When we were sure that the big one was over we ran downstairs and under the table. Dad went to get pillows, duvets and torches. The earthquake had hit at 4:30 in the morning so we still had a big sleep. In the morning we went out for a drive to look at the buildings that had been damaged. It was mainly brick buildings that had been around for a long time. Our chimney was made of brick so the bottom of it was cracked and it was on a slight lean. We stayed at our grandparents house after that since it was up on a hill in redcliffs and we were close to our cousins, so we were with faimily. I hope there is not another earthquake!

Space Inquiry

This term we have been doing an inquiry about a topic we chose to do. I chose space and have found out some interesting fact that some of you would not know, like Saturn and Jupiter are gas planets and Mercury and Venus. The inquiry we are doing is very interesting and we hope we learn lots more about space.

Jessica's Poems

The Cats Meow
Cat’s meow is the sliver lining
Raindrops on roses is the beauty
Kisses on cheeks is the love
Whiskers on kittens is the moon on
Poets in love is the most beautiful thing that You will hear, read, feel, live, and love

Winter
Winter is like thirty minutes to live your life
Because next day you might not open your Eyes to see the dim rays of the sunshine Making her mark bleaching the frozen snow Slowly painfully getting chaffed by the Slightly cold warm rays of the sun peering Longingly through the clouds as it disappears Into nothing like you’ve ever seen

The picture in Black and White
Why do you love me what is it about me that Makes you love me it’s you being so quiet and Loving that makes me love you so

Today Bob from The National Library Service came to our school and introduced us to a lot of very interesting books!
We now know never to judge a book by it's cover!
Here are some of the books he showed us.

Lord Of The Nutcracker Men
Coraline
The Silver Donkey
The London Eye Mystery
Pig City
Nanny Piggins
The Very High Diving Board
There's no such thing as dragons
And much more!
Our favourite book is Lord of the Nutcracker Men.
I suggest you start reading these books if you like Thrills, Adventures or Mysteries!

On Tuesday the 17th of August we had a visitor called Bob. He works in a very famous libary.
And he came in to talk us about book week. He also came into to read some books that have a very bland cover but are very interesting in the inside.
I think he was a very creative person and we really enjoyed him coming in.
